Accessibility Statement
Last updated: September 29, 2026
We want anyone who needs to make a funeral program, slideshow, or prayer cards to be able to use Candlefold, including people using a screen reader, keyboard-only navigation, voice control, or who need larger text or more contrast — often while tired, grieving, and working against a deadline.
Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We have not reached it everywhere yet. This page says plainly what works today and what doesn’t.
What works today
- Every button, form field, and control in the editor has a text label for screen readers, and each step moves focus to its heading and updates the page title.
- The editor and the guide pages can be used with a keyboard alone. A “skip to content” link is on every page.
- Body text and links meet at least a 4.5:1 contrast ratio against their background, in both the light and the dark look of our guide and policy pages. We measure this rather than eyeball it.
- Tap targets are at least 24×24 pixels, and most main buttons are 44 pixels tall or more.
- Images on our guide pages have text alternatives.
- The guide and policy pages follow your device’s dark-mode setting and use relative text sizes, so raising your browser’s default text size makes the text bigger.
- The editor honors your device’s “reduce motion” setting: the slideshow preview stops zooming and animations are cut short.
- The editor’s text sizes are relative, so raising your browser’s default text size makes the editor’s text bigger too. Page zoom (Ctrl or Cmd and +) also works, and the layout reflows without sideways scrolling at 200%.
- In Windows High Contrast (forced colors), the editor’s radio buttons, switches and checkboxes are drawn in system colors, so the selected option shows.
- On a phone, the editor scrolls the focused control clear of its fixed bottom bar.
- “Clear my draft” asks you to confirm first, and says what will be deleted.
Known limits (as of September 29, 2026)
- Dark mode in the editor. The editor at /create/ is light only. The printed pages are shown on light paper on purpose, because that is how they will print.
- Photos you add are labelled “Photo 1”, “Photo 2” and so on, because we can’t know what is in them.
- The photo, slideshow, and PDF preview rely on seeing your photos and layout. If you have low vision, it may help to have someone assist with the preview step, and to print one copy first before ordering more.
- Payment will happen on a page run by Stripe, which publishes its own accessibility information.
How we check
We test with automated checks (axe) and by hand with a keyboard in Chromium at phone and desktop widths, in English and Spanish, and we measure color contrast. We have not yet tested with a screen-reader user (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver or TalkBack); until we do, we don’t claim full conformance.
Tell us about a problem
If something doesn’t work for you, or you need help getting your program, slideshow, or cards another way, email help@candlefold.com. A real person replies within one business day, usually sooner. Tell us the page and what happened; we fix confirmed problems and update this page.
